The tule’ is a water plant that grows in the shallows of lakes along the western range of the Sierra Madres in Mexico. The plant is harvested, cooked/boiled, beat using flat rocks, and then formed into a mat-like material. The artisan creates a geometric or astrological design while the fibers are still wet. The material is then cured and sun-dried for 2-3 weeks. Framed or hung by itself, tules are an interesting addition to your home décor.
