Pine Needle Baskets from El Cerro, Nicaragua
If weaving is an art, then weaving and coiling pine needles is beyond art. The women weavers, along the pine tree covered mountains of Northern Nicaragua, fashion the long needles into functional baskets and distinctive art. Some baskets are coiled so tightly, that they could be used to carry water.
